Above Bob & Leonore Dolphin (both 80) next to the Discovery medal display which features my article on the table. Pretty cool!
On the left is Greg & Julia McLawsen before they ran their first marathons and were magnificent averaging 8:30 miles between them for the race!

For one year this marathon has been on my mind. To go a minute or so over 5:00 in 2009 was very irratating, so I came back with vengance on my mind! This time I was ready for that mile and half stretch at mile 24 that is loose stones and mud (it was raining at the end) as it's hard to gain speed there. What's funny is I ran a stronger marathon then 3 weeks before at Capital City and yet I was only 16 seconds faster! But more importantly I knoced 12 minutes off my time from last year, so this marathon was a huge success!
I was still strong at 21 and had 11:20ish miles in me till the end where I was under 10 on the last mile. This is just a gorgeous marathon with great crowd support considering the size. Once you leave the residentual area at mile nine, it's all the Discovery trail till the end and the weather was perfect for a marathon in my eyes.
Larry and Michelle Little do things right and they will contiue to have one of the best finisher medals out there (#5 in 2009 Marathon and Beyond) for the next two years, then they will probably change design. Even my motel made me feel like family. Once you get hooked into this event, it's hard to not come back and you could bet I will run this again and I am thankful at 51 that I still can run decent times!
